There was one corner in my art studio that didn't have enough light, so I thought it would be interesting to try and make a lamp. I found an old socket in the garage, bent some wire, and sewed a shade from some fabric. It definitely looks homemade, which may or may not be good. But at least it gives good light, and it was fun to make.
Good Grief...who else goes out into their garage and emerges with a fabulous lamp....I must have the wrong garage...LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for this inspiration to make something great.
I like the homemade quality and overall shape. Your studio looks cool :)
ReplyDeletePlay around with different bulbs.
ReplyDeleteHomemade looking is good! three owls, I must have the wrong garage too :)
ReplyDeleteGreat work as usual Joel
wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteSo clever! I love how this looks; charming, casual, characterful.
ReplyDeleteOh, look at all those 'C' words..
its fills that corner just wonderfully. reminds me of Calder's Circus pieces for some reason. thanks for sharing. such a wealth of inspiration you are!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is fantastic !
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely Joel! I love your blog, so refreshing to have a man amongst women bloggers. Have you seen the new lamps of our Dutch top designer Piet Hein Eek?

it looks a bit masculine and charming at the same time. :) love your work
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteLaura - I'm of course a huge fan of Calder. Yeah, the roughly sewn material along with the bent wire does give it a similar feel to the Calder circus pieces. I love that.
Saundra - I hadn't seen the Piet Hein Eek lamps. I really like the wire bases on those! Thanks for showing me!
i think it looks awesome. may i ask what fabric this is? it gives such a nice glow to the light, i might try and steal your idea for my living room ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually not too sure what the fabric is. It's vintage, and to me it looks almost like cheese cloth or something. It's pretty sheer. Not sure if that helps.
